As well as painting Andrew has enjoyed a rich and exciting career as an architect and landscape architect. Following his early work in the field of education and retail building design he spent many years abroad in the Middle East designing hospitals, palaces and vocational training centres.
In 1999 the opportunity arose for him to devote himself full time to art. He divided his time between painting and running a gallery in Hampton Court together with his partner Liz Butt. The Fountain Gallery has now become a thriving artists' cooperative venture which allowed him to move to Rye in East Sussex and concentrate fully on painting. He was elected to The Rye Society of Artists in 2010.
His work is concerned with creating a dynamic balance between the factual elements of the subject and a free-flowing and spontaneous rendering filled with atmosphere and light. He believes that watercolour can be a highly expressive medium, ideal for creating subtle and unified compositions.
